Graduates’ Ball
Nine hundred graduates of the University of Canterbury were entertained by the university’s council at a ball last evening. Guests were received by the Chancellor of the university (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) and Mrs Warren, the deputy chairman of the professorial board (Professor N. C. Phillips) and Mrs Phillips, the Pro-Chancellor (Mr T. H. McCombs) and Mrs McCombs, the Vice-Chancellor (Dr. L. L. PownalD and Mrs Pownall, and the registrar (Mr G. G. Turbott). Mrs Warren’s ice blue satin gown had a jewelled bodice and two floating panels falling from the straight skirt. Mrs Phillips wore a black lace slim-fitting gown with a heart-shaped neckline. Mrs McCombs wore a brown duchess satin dress which was embroidered in black. The bodice featured a boat-shaped neckline and the straight skirt had two small pleats in front.
