Some Wools Easier At Auckland

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 29.

Prices for secondshear and early-shorn wools were 2| per cent cheaper at the eighth Auckland sale today than they were at the Christchurch sale this week. The official report says that 27,114 bales of new season’s greasy wool were in today’s five catalogues. Early-shorn and secondshear wools were 55 per cent of this total, lamb’s wool 20 per cent, and ewe and wether fleece 10 per cent to 15 per cent, the remainder being oddments.

The wool did not open up as well as usual for an April sale, most being off in colour and yellow because of high rainfall. Too many lines also showed lack of care in preparation. Yields, however, were a little higher than usual. Continental interests supported by America were the principal purchasers. Well-picked, better-style lamb’s wool remained firm, but poor average to inferior lambs’ wool cheapened in buyers’ favour. Fleece wool and skirtings also inclined in buyers’ favour. Not all growers were prepared to accept this change, and passings approached 10 per cent of the offering. Price Range
