SCHOOL BUS TESTS

Teachers State Requirements (N.Z. Press Association) MASTERTON, April 29. Secondary school teachers in the Wairarapa view with alarm what they term the Education Department’s “apparent indifference” to the safety of pupils who use school buses. The annual meeting of the W’airarapa region of the PostPrimary Teachers’ Association last night urged its national executive to press strongly for: (1) The immediate reduction in bus loadings, particularly of standing passengers. (2) A more careful check by vehicle inspectors that safety requirements are observed. (3) The prosecutions of motorists who pass stationary school buses at more than 10 miles an hour. (4) Buses being tested under loaded conditions.
