Britain will refuse to renew the charters of all merchant ships now flying the Union Jack which are trading with North Vietnam, a British naval officer said today. Captain William Lapper, executive assistant to N.A.T.O.'s deputy supreme allied commander, Atlantic, said the charters themselves are in the nature of contracts “which are difficult to break,” but renewing them is a different matter. Captain Lapper’s statement came during a news conference. He was asked about the feeling in Britain concerning British merchantmen trading with North Vietnam.
Soldiers Killed. Three British soldiers were killed and three others wounded—two seriously—in a midnight clash with dissident tribesmen in the mountainous Radfan area north of Aden, a military spokesman said today—Aden, April 29.
