PORPOISES IN WAR

May Carry Explosives PH,X.P-A.-Keutar—Copyright) LOS ANGELES, April 24. Suicide porpoises trained to carry explosives and ram enemy submarines may be a weapon of the future. Naval research scientists have shown a marine science conference a film of porpoises trained to tell the difference between copper and aluminium. Dr. B. A. Powell, of the United States Naval Ordnance Test Station, explained that a patch at metal not usually found on submarines could help “squadrons" of porpoises identify friendly craft. Any craft not bearing this patch would be subject to ramming by the porpoises, trained to cany explosives in body harnesses.
