Smoke Ring In Good School

“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Smoke Ring, the glamour jumper from Waiuku, gave a dashing display over the country at Ellerslie yesterday. It was his first try at the big fences since he won the Great Northern Steeplechase on June 7 last year, yet he cleared each with great confidence. Ridden by R. J. Leggett, Smoke Ring started at the brush near the seven furlongs and cleared a further nine, taking in the hill and finishing with the brush near the mile start over 10 fences of the country. He had speed on all the way and did not look likely to make a mistake. Smoke Ring hardly blew After the work. He looks nearly ready for the Balmoral Steeplechase at BllarjUa on May 2.
