Queen Mother To Be In Chch. Tomorrow
The Queen Mother will be publicly welcomed in Christchurch tomorrow, the eighth day of her New Zealand tour. The welcome will be held at 11.15 a.m. at “The Limes” site for the new town hall, facing Victoria square.
The autumn colours in Christchurch will be at their best for Her Majesty’s visit, and will much enhance the outdoors setting for the welcome. If it is wet, the welcome will be held in the Civic Theatre from 11 a.m. to noon. The Royal yacht Britannia, bringing Her Majesty from Timaru, will uerth at No. 4 wharf at Lyttelton at 9 a.m. After disembarkation, and welcome, she will be driven to Christchurch through the road tunnel, approaching Victoria square by way of Fitzgerald avenue and Chester street east. On arrival at “The Limes” site, Her Majesty will be met by the Minister of Finance
(Mr Lake) and Mrs Lake, who will present to her the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) and the Mayoress, Mrs Manning, and the Town Clerk (Mr C, S. Bowie). The Band of the 2nd Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, will give items just before Her Majesty arrives, and will play the National Anthem after the Mayor has escorted her to her seat on the dais. Her Majesty will then be presented with a bouquet by Miss Jane Guthrey, a daughter of Cr. A. R. Guthrey, after which the Mayor will read the city’s address of welcome. After Her Majesty's reply, the St. Andrew's College Pipe Band will lead a march-past of youth organisations. Her Majesty will leave at noon for the Royal trotting meeting at the Addington raceway, where she is sched-
tiled to arrive at 12.15 p.m. She will be greeted by the president of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club (Mr R. W. Saunders). At 4 p.m. Her Majesty will leave the raceway by car to rejoin the Britannia at Lyttelton, returning by much the same way as she drove into Christchurch, reaching Ferry road by way of Lincoln road and Moorhouse avenue. Her Majesty will arrive alongside the Britannia at 4.25 p.m. Reception Aboard She will hold a reception aboard from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., and afterwards dine privately in the ship. On Sunday Her Majesty will attend morning service in the Christchurch Cathedral, being driven to the city through the road tunnel, along Dyers road, Linwood avenue, and Worcester street.
