M.O.W. TRAINING OFFICER

Mr H. J. Anderson

To Retire

Mr H. J. Anderson, senior staff training officer, Ministry of Works, Wellington, will retire this week after 40 years' service.

Mr Anderson has spent 26 of his 40 years in the Public Service with the Ministry of Works. He began in the Public Trust Office in 1926, working in its head office and its branches at Christchurch and Palmerston North until 1936, when he transferred to the Public Works Department, at Invercargill, when the Homer tunnel, and the Hollyford Valley and Milford Sounds highway were under construction.

After seven years in Invercargill, he went to Kaikoura as administration officer. At the time the Ministry of Works was linking up the final section of the South Island main trunk railway between Hundalee and the Clarence bridge. Between 1948 and 1952, Mr Anderson was chief clerk in the Rehabilitation Department, Wellington, where he had wide experience in trades training.

He rejoined the Ministry of Works in 1953. After administrative work on departmental properties he was appointed staff training officer in 1956 and in 1963 senior staff training officer.
