EXPANSION AT C.B.H.S.

Board Wants Architect

The board of governors of the Christchurch Boys’ High School will ask the Education Department to seek the services of an architect to plan the scope and siting of future accommodation at the school. On the recommendation of the works committee, the board approved this step at its monthly meeting. Professor H. J. Hopkins, convener of the works committee, told the board that this was both a long-term and an urgent requirement. “We are planning an additional six-roomed block,” he said. “It is important that it should be sited in a place where it will not hinder any future expansion of the school.”

The board approved in principle the sponsorship of a pupil to attend the Outward Bound School at Anakiwa. The headmaster (Mr C. F. S. Caldwell) presented a report prepared by three boys who had already attended a course. The report said the course was worthy of the attention of the board, which might consider sponsoring a pupil each year. Mr Caldwell said the boys could raise the funds themselves, and staff and pupils would make up an organising committee. All that was required was that the board sanction the proposal.
