FAMINE IN INDIA
£875 Sent To C.0.R.5.0.
A total of £875 for Indian famine relief was received in the Christchurch office of C.0.R.5.0. between Monday and Thursday. The area organiser (Mr G. H. Coley) said that this total was quite spectacular for a four-day effort. Mr Coley said the amount would buy almost ive tons of milk powder. Included in the £875 were contributions from churches and many persons. “We had a charming letter from the eldest of a family of eight children who said she felt, after hearing about the famine conditions in India, that they couldn’t really accept Easter eggs, so she sent us 255. It was the first gift of its kind we have received,” he said.
