The magic of George Moore on Wednesday turned the disappointing m Person —which brought 18,250 dollars at the 1964 New Zealand yearling sales —from a mediocre horse to a dashing winner at Canterbury.
In Person (Summertime —Festival Air) before Wednesday’s win in the Maiden Handicap (nine furlongs and 80 yards) bad returned only 620 dollars hi prize-money with two minor placings. In Person, 2/1 favourite, beat The Yank, with a further threequarters of a length to Star Djafar third. In Person ran the smart time of Innin 58.8 sec for maiden class horses.
Moore adopted daring tactics on In Person. He was in trouble in the first furlong when Royal Steel raced erratically and cut across the leaders.
In Person was welt back In twelfth place approaching the sta furlongs, but in a twinkling Moore pulled him wide and raced right around Hie field to be a clear leader at the halfmile.
