On the opening day of the Kawerau £12,000 six-week queen carnival campaign, Mr T. Williams ,of Te Teko, drank a yard-long glass of beer, containing 60 ounces, in 27.4 seconds. A time of 43 seconds, put up at Hastings, is thought to 'have been the previous New Zealand record. Secondplace went to a Kawerau entrant who drank his beer in 30.4 seconds. In a three-mem-ber team contest Te Teko Hotel was first in one minute 52 seconds. Kawerau and Edgecumbe Hotels were second and third in times of one minute 54 seconds and two minutes 38 seconds.
