MOTHERS’ UNION

1100 Members Attend Service More than 1100 Mothers’ Union members from the Christchurch diocese attended their festival service in Christchurch Cathedral yesterday morning. The Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) conducted the service. The theme of his sermon was revolt against authority today. He emphasised the Mothers' Union’s responsibility to maintain standardß of CterisUanity in community and country. Banners were carried through the Cathedral at the start of the service. Mrs W. W. Averill, Dominion vicepresident, led the procession carrying the cross, followed by Mrs W. A. Pierro, the Christchurch president, with the diocesan banner, and 56 representatives from branches in the diocese.

In the afternoon a gathering of 800 met at Biahopscourt to hear Miss Josephine Roberts speak about her work as a Mothers’ Union missionary in Korea. They were welcomed by Bishop Warren and Mrs Pierro. Guests included 40 representatives of kindred women’s organisations and members of many other denominations.
