The world heavy-weight champion, Cassius Clay, has promised to retire if he loses—to the Canadian title-holder, George Chuvalo, at Toronto on Tuesday.
“I’d have to retire. Once I lose, that's it,” the champion told reporters at the training camp where he is hurrying to get into shape for the 15-round fight' which officials here sternly pro-
test is not for the world tiUe.
Clay worked nine rounds with three sparring partners yesterday, bringing his weight down to 15st 71b.
This is 10 to 12 pounds over his usual fighting weight, but he hopes to take off another five pounds. The fight here is advertised at “The showdown of champions” and Clay’s billing is “The people's champion.”
