HALSWELL SEWERS
Plan Given Approval
Sewer reticulation of the area of the Baisweil county in the county council’s undisclosed urban fence was approved by the Christchurch Drainage Board on Tuesday evening.
The board was advised by the council's consulting engineers that the council had in mind a planned and regular development of the Halswell area bounded by its urban fence. The provision of sewer reticulation within the area was the only way in which this could be achieved satisfactorily. The area within the undisclosed urban fence in the county was 502 acres, and the estimated cost of providing reticulation in the existing streets within the urban fence, including pumping stations, rising mains and ancillary works, but excluding any costs involved in raising the loan was £206,500. The council asked for the board’s approval to the area to be sewered so it could be declared a special sewer rating area and the engineering investigation and design work could proceed. The engineer (Mr P. J. McWilliam) said the sewage flow from the amended areas requested by the council would finally amount to an estimated peak flow of 875 gallons a minute. The temporary outfall provided by the sewer in Cashmere road had adequate capacity for the peak flow. As the final outfall for Halswell would be provided by the proposed Lincoln road relief sewer expected to be ready for use in 10 to 15 years, it could be assumed that the area would not cause any major difficulty.
