(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 23. A report that Colonel Knox, president of Mr lan Smith’s Rhodesian Front Party, paid a visit to New Zealand last week was confirmed this morning by Mr J. R. Firth, vice-chairman of the New Zealand-Rhodesia Society.

A report said that the visit was made known to a meeting of the society last night At this meeting It was stated that Colonel Knox had interviews with the society chairman, Mr S. S. Green, who is also Mayor of Dargaville, and Mr Firth. When approached today, Mr Firth declined to make a statement on

Colonel Knox's visit. “I did see him while he was here," he said. “The meeting had nothing to do with politics.” This afternoon, Mr Green said Colonel Knox was in New Zealand to gauge the feelings of New Zealanders toward Mr lan Smith’s Rhodesian Front Party.

“After speaking to hundreds of people, high and low, Colonel Knox told me that he believed 75 per cent of New Zealanders were supporting Mr Smith,” said Mr Green.

"This is my own conclusion as well,” he said. Not many people knew who Colonel Knox was or where he came from.
