Prize For Geologist
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 14. Dr. C. A. Fleming, chief paleontologist at the Geological Survey, Lower Hutt, has been awarded the Walter Burfitt Prize for 1965. The award was made by the Royal Society of New South Wales for outstanding contributions in the field of macropaleontology. It is awarded every three years “to the worker whose contributions published during the last six years are deemed of the highest scientific merit, account being taken only of investigations described for the first time and carried out by the author, mainly in Australia or New Zealand.”
Dr. Fleming is the second New Zealander to receive the prize, which was given in 1929 by Dr. and Mrs W. F. Burfitt. Professor K. Bullen, now living at Sydney, received the award in 1953.
