Isfahan Wins In Tight Finish
(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Isfahan led for the last six furlongs and held on to win the Taranaki Cup, the first leg of the TA.B. double on the second day of the Taranaki Jockey Club’s autumn meeting at New Plymouth yesterday. Isfahan, a blueskin four-year-old trained at Te Aroha by D. J. Arnott, won by a head from Hilldale with Tahi a nose away third. Aro was well ridden by N. B. Holland to win the second leg of the Taranaki Sprint Handicap, by a nose from Star of Kildare. The Isfahan-Aro combination paid £338 12s fid for £l. The racing was held in fine weather and the track was hard and fast The totalisator on-course handled £28.440, compared with £34,646 10s on the corresponding day last year.
