3rd Win In 18 Years

For only the third time in 18 years Ellesmere won the J. V. Masefield Memorial Shield for supremacy between the unions comprising the North Canterbury Cricket Sub-association when it defeated Malvern by seven runs on the first innings yesterday. Malvern, the holder of the shield, had won the competiton 15 times since its introduction in 1948, while Ellesmere’s sole successes previously had been in 1948 and 1952.
