Test-Rate Scoring In School, College Match

Only 267 runs were scored in 390 minutes on the first day of the annual cricket match between Christchurch Boys’ High School and Christ’s College at Straven road yesterday.

Christ’s College laboured for 270 minutes to score 181 and Boys’ High was equally passive in compiling 86 for two in 120 minutes.

The early College batsmen set the pace of the day’s play. J. Lawson took 33 minutes for six runs; M. Hobbs scored 14 in 74 minutes, four minutes longer than J. Utley took to hit 17R. Fulton provided the back-

bone of the innings with 66. His eight boundaries were spaced over 155 minutes. Boys’ High did little better. After two hours S. Squire was undefeated with 31, and

at that stage had not hit a boundary. In both innings the bowling was fairly dry and neither captain set very attacking fields. CHRIST’S COLLEGE First Innings J. Lawson, lbw, b Chambers 6 M.
