GOOD CROP OF WHEAT

112 Bushels To The Acre

A high-yielding crop of wheat was harvested in the Halswell district this week. It produced an estimated 112 bushels to the acre. The six-acre paddock was on the property of Mr H. J. McTeigue and fronts Milnes road. It was in Aotea wheat last season, and then yielded 114 bushels to the acre. It was subsequently sown to oats for greenfeed and then put back to wheat, again of the Aotea variety. The current yield is calculated on bags harvested and is said to be a conservative estimate. Fifteen acres in wheat on the property has averaged 104 bushels to the acre this season.
