Fellow Sufferers
Cramp is a dreadful affliction for tennis players but it has a current connexion between two players who will meet at Wilding Park today. Last Friday,, in the international tournament at Auckland, L. A. Gerrard suffered cramp at a crucial stage of his quarter-final with the Chilean, P. Rodriguez. Doing well at the time, Gerrard finally lost. It was the first time Gerrard had suffered cramp in a match. In a long inter-club game at Wilding Park on
Sunday afternoon, the second North Linwood man, R. Payne, suffered cramp late in his third set against J. Martin (University). Payne had his leg massaged before he was given salt tablets by the secretary of the Canterbury association, B. Crofts. Payne went on to win the match. Troubled by cramp in the past, Crofts has found the tablets the right remedy and he now takes them before his matches. A second round match today—Crofts v. Gerrard.
