Marriage “Cost” Assn. £65
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND. The marriage of overseas tennis stars, the Chilean, Patricio Rodriguez, and Miss Michele Boulle, of France, in Sydney cost the Auckland L.T.A. £65. The tournament organiser, Mr A. Tills, said yesterday that a party of 10 or more qualified for an airways fares reduction for one member—the equivalent of £65. He made up the requisite number with the inclusion of three Argentinian players but When these withdrew at the last moment he was left with only eight. He got permission from the Australian asso-
ciation to obtain Miss Kerry Melville and R. Ruffcis, and again had 10. But then came the lastminute marriage which, under the airline regulations, forced the Rodriguezs to be recognised as a single unit. The 10 became nine, with the result that the party did not qualify for the £65 discount. But both Mr Tills and association chairman, Mr N. Barclay, said they were delighted with the “happy ending.” “Out of the marriage we got front-page publicity worth considerably more than the amount we lost,” Mr Barclay said.
