INTET-DOMINION Robin Dundee Wins Heat

t.N.Z. Press Association—Copyright' SYDNEY. The champion New Zealand marc. Robin Dundee, came from a hopeless position in the back straight to win the third pacing heat of the Inter-Dominion championships at Harold Park last night in tremendous style.

When Maurice Holmes took her wide in the back straight in an attempt to get a run, the crowd roared with dismay as it looked as though she would never win.

The crowd roared its approval as she turned on one of the greatest performances seen at Harold Park to streak home four wide for a four yard victory. The track commentator exclaimed: “What a performance! What a performance!” Tenth Rose finished second and Blue Penant, a head behind, third. Robin Dundee’s co-baek marker, Minuteman, finished sixth. Her fine win has placed Robin Dundee second in the noints table with 12 to Dale’s Gift. Chamfer Star has eight j points and Minuteman five. In the first four heats last night four first-night Winners won again. The pacers Chamfer Star and Dale’s Gift, and the trotters Coron McElwin and Maori Miss, all heat winners on Saturday night, won their heats last night. The New Zealander Tactile was stuck in the middle of the field in the first pacing heat last night, but after making a burst on the straight in the final lap, was forced wide and failed to catch the leaders. The Victorian Chamfer Star won the heat. The first trotting heat went to Corop McElwin which beat the champion South Australian mare Gramel by a half head in a thrilling finish. The New Zealander Queen’s Cord broke badly in the sec-; ond lap and trailed the field | She fought her wav back, and was challenging the leaders on the final turn but was unable to make lost ground and finished fifth. Gramel, favourite for the trotters’ title, scored five points in the heat and should qualify for the final. Jacobite Second In the second pacers’ heat Dale’s Gift raced home eight yards ahead of the New Zealander Jacobite, with half' a he id to the 50 to 1 longshot Lookout. Jacobite and Garry Dillon got good starts and nestled into second and fourth positions early on behind Van Nut. Dale’s Gift was sixth as they entered the last lap, made a brilliant run and easily held off Jacobite’s challenge to win. Jacobite started 2-1 favourite and picked up two points for his second, his first in j the series. Garry Dillon, in I second place into the last ■ lap, faded in the finish and passed the post second to last. Big Margin Maori Miss (Victoria) took the second trotting heat in; magnificent style, winning by 20 yards, the biggest margin of the series so far. Nicely placed throughout, she made her run in the back straight on the last lap and left the field standing. Lucky Song, owned in New Zealand by Mr and Mrs V. L. Davies and trained in New South Wales, started 5-2 joint j favourite with Maori Miss but j fell soon after the start and; though its driver, P. J. Hall, remounted and kept racing; the mare was tailed off and never had a chance. Fourina (New Zealand){ moved up on the outside with two laps to go but could not! get a run and was never in the race.
