Linwood Outplays Wallabies
Linwood easily retained its lead in the Canterbury table tennis summer competition when it defeated Wallabies, 11-1, in the tenth round matches last night.
It won all nine singles in straight games and lost its only doubles match in three games. The No. 2, J. Kyle, played particularly well and was undefeated in all his matches. Avonside I encountered little difficulty against Selwyn 11, winning 9-3. R. McCallum won all his singles to gain Selwyn’s only points. It took the final doubles match to decide the CelticSelwyn I clash. Down 4-6 in matches, B. Edwards (Celtic) defeated Mrs T. May in three games to equal the game score at 14-all, 5-6 down. Edwards and M. Rossell then beat Mrs May and R. Sanderson in straight games to win, 16 games to 14. Edwards was undefeated during the evening and put so much overspin into his fore-hand drive that it was almost unplayable. Results:— Avonside I 4, Selwyn II 1 J. Harris beat B.
