McGowan Lead With 66

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) PALM SPRINGS.

The little-known Jack McGowan took a surprising first-round lead in the 100,000dollar Bob Hope Classic golf tournament yesterday with a six-under-par 66. Tied for second place, at 67, in the 90-hole tournament were Joe Taylor and Al Besselink.

Bill Casper, the defending champion, was on 69, and Arnold Palmer, who is off to an excellent start this season, fired a 71.
