A 63-year-old man, George Sparks, of 317 Main South road, suffered burns to his left hand in the early hours of yesterday morning when white spirits ignited in the oil pump room of the Crown Crystal Glass Company’s works at Hornby. Mr Sparks was treated at Christchurch Hospital and discharged. Two machines, one from Sockburn and one from headquarters, answered the call which was received at 3.25 a.m. The fire did only very slight damage.
