Last Flight Made

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) PORT MORESBY, Jan. 5. An era in Australian aviation ends today when a Catalina flying boat makes its last commercial flight in Papua. The Trans-Australia Airline’s flying boat has for years been the only means of transport to the outside world from many outlying Papuan settlements. The “Cat,” or “Sunduck,” as the aircraft is known, has been operating from Port Moresby since 1961, and was able to service areas which had no landing strips.
