MANY VISITORS HELPED
Public Relations Office Work The Canterbury Public Relations Office assisted hundreds of visitors to Christchurch during the Christmas and New Year holiday periods. People from overseas and from other New Zealand centres called at the office seeking information about accommodation and tours of the city and other South Island scenic places. Many of the callers were visitors from Australia and the United States. Others ■ were from Britain and Canada, and a few were from Europe. . With the national bowls championships in Christchurch the office had more difficulty than usual in finding the type of accommodation sought by those who called. One couple with three children seeking permanent accommodation were able, through the office, to get in at an Automobile Association camp.
The office also helped overseas people who found that tours they had arranged in advance had been cancelled.
Inquiries that could not be handled directly were referred to travel agencies in the city.
