WOOL IN CARPETS
Popularity In Britain Three times as much wool as all other fibres was used in the manufacture of British carpets last year and the amount of wool used is rising significantly. Mr Dennis Clive, United Kingdom director of the International Wool Secretariat, made this point at a trade press luncheon held in London to announce the launching of the Woolmark on British carpets. Mr Brian Lucas, the secretariat’s director of carpet marketing in Europe, told the gathering he believed good quality all-wool tufted carpets were likely to take a major part of the European market.
He said the secretariat’s quality control system would not only cover the pure wool content, but also the degree of moth proofing and the standard of backing material on tufted carpets.
