Provincial Swimming Team Contains Few Surprises

All of Canterbury’s top swimmers, with the exception of W. Williamson and Miss J. Clark, who are in Australia with the New Zealand Universities’ team, have been selected to represent the province at the South Island championships, to be held in Dunedin on January 29.

The team contains few surprises, although Alan Kindred, the Canterbury men's freestyle record-holder, has been chosen to swim in the backstroke events.

Catherine Whiting, the under-12 girls’ freestyle and backstroke record-holder, will swim for Canterbury for the first time. She has been entered for the backstroke and

medley events, and will start the medley relay. Only one competitor is permitted from each province for each event as this is a team contest, although each event carries a South Island championship. 1 Canterbury has never been jbeaten in the teams’ contest but faces a strong challenge 'from Otago this year.
