FORCED TO LEAVE
; Russian Troupe In Tanzania (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NAIROBI, Jan. 5 A troupe of Russian variety artists said on their arrival in Nairobi today they had [been ordered out of Tanzania because they refused to give a Government member a free ticket to their show. The singers, dancers and acrobats denied a Tanzanian Government claim that the reason for their deportation had been irregularities with their travel documents. On Monday they were given two hours to leave the country, but this was later extended pending a final decision.
An impresario, Mr E. Clifton said that during a performance by the troupe on Monday night, a woman member of the Government arrived with a party of other women saying they had been invited to the show. “I said no invitations had been given and that if the women wanted to see the show they must pay the same as anybody else,” Mr Clifton said. “The woman member of the Government considered she had been insulted, and later came to our hotel and said she was glad we were ! being ordered to leave."
