Carpet In Schools
A school, to be opened this week in Saffron Walden. Essex, will have carpet on the floors instead of tiles. It is an experiment to see whether children learn better jn a quieter atmosphere. The school, will cater for 560 infant and junior pupils. The Essex Education Department say*s: "It is claimed that with carpets everything is much more domestic and homely; for the infants so they con-1 centrate more on lessons. -In America carpets have, been used in schools with' great success.” The 150 square yards of carpet will cost £7OO. Each; classroom will be carpeted in a different colour with an, abstract pattern.
