MINOR POWER BREAKS
Storm Damage
“We were fairly lucky,” said the Central Canterbury Electric Power Board’s distribution engineer (Mr K. Lewis), reporting yesterday that minor damage had been caused to the system, mainly through trees and branches falling over power lines in Wednesday’s storm. There were no major breaks in the supply, he said, although a wire, not near trees, had parted for no apparent reason at Springston, and cut supply to the district for two hours and a half. Minor breaks were confined chiefly to the Springston, Brookside and Dunsandel areas, he said. Power was off in the Lincoln area yesterday afternoon to allow line extensions, and not as a result of the storm.
