Too Many Talias
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND
A double dose of mistaken Identity resulted in an unraced two-year-old making a premature visit to Ellerslie on Monday, and the four-year-old mare, Talia, making an unscheduled trip to Rotorua. Mistake No. 1 came when an employee of Cunningham's stable at Takaninl loaded the two-year-old on a float In mistake for Talia, a runner in the Ponsonby Hlgh-weight at Ellerslie.
The error was discovered by the jockey, G. Smith. Back to Ellerslie came another float with another
"Talla,” but Smith had to step in again.
The replacement proved to be Royal Poet, a candidate for the sixth race.
Hopes of getting Talla to Ellerslie in time for the first race had now been dashed. But Smith remembered Talla was also an acceptor at Rotorua yesterday. He telephoned Cunningham In Rotorua to stop him going ahead with original plans to scratch Talla, and before the day was through the horse was on his way. After all the trouble, Talia was unplaced In her Rotorua race.
