Ist Innings Wins In Brabin Cup

AUCKLAND,
Auckland, with some aggressive batting by G. Thome and G. Vivian, and Wellington, by a wide margin over Canterbury, scored first innings wins in the first series of matches in the Brabin Cup under-20 cricket tournament at Auckland yesterday.
Auckland lost only six wickets in passing the Otago first innings total of 243. Thome scored 75 and Vivian 44.
Later the off-spinner, J. Syme, took five for 13 when Otago slumped to 70 for eight in its second innings. Canterbury, chasing Wellington’s 218, seemed likely to be asked to follow on when it was 91 for eight. But R. M. Geanry and C. M. Kirk steered the total to 151, and Wellington had to be content with five pointe for first innings honour*.
