New South Wales defeated Victoria by nine wickets in their Sheffield Shield match in Melbourne yesterday. New South Wales was set to score 90 runs in 112 minutes to win outright It obtained them with 35 minutes to spare for the loss of one wicket

The test batsmen, B. C. Booth and R. B. Simpson, had little difficulty in hitting up the runs. Booth made 46 not out in 59 minutes, with five fours, and Simpson 33 not out in 77 minutes, with one four. Earlier, Victoria had battled on to make 415. The highlight of its second innings was J. Potter’s 221—his highest in first-class cricket and his first double century. He batted for 357 minutes •nd hit 23 fours. Scores: New South Wales 592 and 90/1, Victoria 266 ■nd 415.
