INSURANCE FOR FIRE
Premiums Rise To £B.lm
Revenue from fire insurance premiums rose to £B.lm in 1964-65 from a figure of £7.5m the previous year. Expenditure on claims reached £2.7m, compared pared with £2.5m in 1963-64. These figures are quoted in the Abstract of Statistics for December, just released. Gross loss by fire throughout New Zealand increased slightly from £3,505,000 in 1963-64 to £3,652,000 in 196465. This made the average loss from each fire £B5, compared with £B4 the previous year. Accident Insurance In accident insurance, where the main classes of insurance are employers’ liability and motor-vehicle comprehensive, revenue from premiums was £25.7m during the year, while expenditure on claims totalled £16.9m. Corresponding figures for the previous year were £23.4m and £15.1m. The percentage of claims paid to premiums received rose from 62.8 in 1963-64 to 63.3 in 1964-65.
