OFFICIAL REPORT AND PRICES

(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, December 17. The third Timaru wool sale of the 1965-1966 season was held yesterday, at St. Patrick's Hall, when a full quota of 25,300 bales of greasy and 261 bales of scoured wool, was offered, according to the official report issued by the South Canterbury Woolbrokers' Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers' Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission. The selection was a varied one and above the usual December standard, the clip being

well grown, mostly sound and of excellent colour. The offering comprised ewe fleece, a good selection of woolly and shorn hoggets, the usual oddments, and a larger than usual quantity of Merinos, which included some of the best Mackenzie Country clips. Unfortunately, some otherwise good style lots were marred by irregularities in length. Prices remained very firm on recent rates for extra line and fine crossbreds and unchanged for coarser descriptions, whilst there was little change in halfbred values compared with the recent Chlrstchurch sale. Merinos were irregular in price, with the better style types up to 21 per cent cheaper than comparable wools at the last Dunedin sale. The Continent were the principal buyers, with support from Bradford on the hogget wools. Local mills were active on Merinos and some of the better style halfbreds. Prompt day for the sale Is January 7, 1964.
