LIFE-SAVING DIPLOMA
3 Candidates Successful The council of the Royal Life Saving Society, New Zealand, approved passes for three of the five candidates in the society’s diploma examination. They were Miss F. Burnett, of Auckland; Miss P. Woodroffe, of Wanganui; and Miss E. C. McFarlane, of Wellington. The examination, conducted on behalf of the Commonwealth council in London, is the society’s highest honour. Candidates must pass a practical test in the water, during which they are required to swim a considerable distance fully clothed, they are also expected to have a very high knowledge of methods of resuscitation, and be able to demonstrate these to the examiners.
If successful in the practical test, candidates then sit a three-hour paper to test their knowledge of physiology, the theory of resuscitation, swimming, and their suggested action in an accident involving resuscitation.
