“Nikora Should Take A Rest”
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. Earl Nikora, the King Country boxer, should take a long rest from boxing or, possibly, retire, the American fighter, Clarence James, said in Auckland yesterday.
James said that he “could not see Nikora fighting for at least the next three or four months.”
He said Nikora should, if he fights again, be careful to choose an opponent who was not very strong. “Nikora was no opposition at all,” said James. “He does not seem to bother to defend his head. 1 found it much easier to hit him in the head than in his body.” James said that, if he had been managing Nikora, he would have pulled him out of the fight “If a manager let me get beaten like that” said James, “he would not stay my manager for long.” Commenting on statements made by Mr W. Baker, Nikon’s manager, that James had fouled Nikon, James said the blows to the side of Nikon’s body were “borderline” but not fouls.
