TV PLANT DISMISSALS

Union Satisfied With Talks

(-V.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND, December 9. The North Island Electrical Workers’ Union was satisfied with the result of talks held today with the management of the Pye organisation, the union secretary, Mr J. F. Taylor, said. Mr Taylor said the union's request for wage increases would be subject to further discussion. He declined to give details of the agreements reached on the three other questions raised—the payment of Christmas statutory holiday pay to recently dismissed workers, an assurance of continued and reasonable security of employment for present staff, and more than a week’s notice of dismissal where possible. The meeting arose from the dismissal of 175 workers at Paeroa and Waihi.

Pye’s general manager, Mr T. J. F. Spencer, would not comment.
