Grey mouth To Drop 2 Days
(From Our Own Reporter!
GREYMOUTH.
Lack of finance has caused the Greymouth Jockey Club to forego its twoday February meeting this season.
The two days will be passed back to the New Zealand Racing Conference through the Greymouth district committee for temporary distribution to South Island clubs. The club intends to retain the permits next season for racing during the New Year holiday period.
These two days were given up in 1955 because of a shortage of jockeys when the meeting clashed with the present Waikouaiti, Oarnaru and Kurow New Year circuit. A loss of £1320 was shown for the meeting just concluded after taking into account the full taxation rebate of £l/250 allowable on the first £50,000 turn-over, both on and off-course. Should the dub have decided to race again in February and again handle £BO,OOO, which was the turnover for the November meeting, the total loss would have been £2570.
