Road Deaths Rise To 523

WELLINGTON, Dec. 9.
Up to 4.30 p.m. today 523 road deaths had been reported to the Transport Department this year. At this time last year only 396 had been reported.
The toll for December so far is nine. At the same time last December, 11 had died. A later death has brought November’s toll to 35. Load Shifted When the load on his truck shifted on a corner and the vehicle rolled over, a driver suffered injuries from which he died on the way from Taupo to the Rotorua Hospital this afternoon. He was Leslie Adams, of Rotorua. His age and marital status are not yet known.
Mr Adams was driving the heavy truck on the main high-
way about 13 miles south of Taupo about 4.30 p.m. when the road roller on the vehicle's tray shifted and the truck rolled over. Man Dies A nun who was injured on December 5 died today in the Waikato Hospital. He was
Jackson Saunders, aged 21, single, a farmer, of Te Mata.
He was the driver of a car that ran off the Raglan to Hamilton highway near the Te Mata turn-off.
Electric Shock
An 11-year-old boy was killed by electric shock at his home at Mourea, 15 miles north of Rotorua, tonight when he touched the power line leading into the house. He was

The Rotorua police said tonight the boy was on the roof of his home about 7.30 pan and he leaned over and grasped the wires in both
The power was cut as soon as possible at tins New Zealand Electricity Department’s substation at Rotorua and although mouth-to-mouth resuacftation was applied immediately the boy was fined from the lines, he was pronounced dead by a doctor who met the ambulance on its way to Rotorua.
