Estimates are for a record apple crop and a reasonably good pear crop this season, according to the biometries section of the Department of Agriculture. Estimates at this stage are: apples 5,500,000 bushels, and pears 908,000 bushels. The department says there has been an upward trend in apple production as a result of increasing acreages and yields, but a much less pronounced trend in pear production. Apple exports in the 198344 season totalled 2,143,000 bushels and in the 198440 season 2,135,000 bushels, while those for pears were IMnnn and IMAM hushala.
