NEW ROAD BRIDGE
Blenheim Job Begins Test piles for a £42,500 replacement for Blenheim's High street bridge, on the main south highway, were driven at the week-end. The old bridge will be closed "rom January 14, and the contractors are required to complete the new one within six months.
The Mayor of Blenheim (Mr S. A. Harling) said the borough council was gratified that the National Roads Board had agreed to amend its original proposals for a 32ft carriageway to conform with the council’s request for a 42ft carriageway, with two 6ft paths. The bridge was necessary to cope with the increasing traffic through Blenheim generated by the Aramoana service, said Mr Harling. The borough, he added, had just completed a new £38,000 bridge at Hutcheson street, on which, for the first time, the board had paid a municipality a £3 for £2 subsidy as against the normal rate of £4 for £3,
