The results of the first round of a three-night match played at the Christchurch Contract Bridge Club were:
Open—North-south: Mrs W. Ellis and L. Julian 1, Mrs D. A. Ballantyne and Dr. R. I. Steel 2. S. Frew and E. Rickard 3. East-west: Mrs H. C. Burry and M. L. Shand 1, Mrs N. Laver and Mrs H. Smart 2, Dr. J. D. Billings and E. 0. Coberger 3.
