Bob Duff Faces Wilful Challenge

"The Press’’ Special Service AUCKLAND. Bob Duff and a fresh runner, Wilful, promise to dispute the finish in the first leg of the double, the Lawful Cup, at Dargaville today. Bob Duff will be trying for a double at the Northern Wairoa meeting; Wilful has not raced since she failed over a mile at Ellerslie on November 6. From the weight he carried successfully in the Cockerton Memorial yesterday, over the Lawful Cup course, Bob Duff is up 91b to 8-7 this time. El Cortez, which pressed him so hard on the first day, is not an acceptor. Except for El Cortez, none of the runners in the Cockerton Memorial had a chance with Bob Duff, a dashing front runner which will very likely attempt another end-to-end win. Wilful is a stablemate of El Cortez in C. M. Jillings’s stable at Takanini. She had 8-5. The best chances otherwise might be Micheline and Inner Circle. Te Matai, which ran the fastest six furlongs on the first day when winning the Awakino Hack Handicap in Imin 12sec, looks the best prospect in the second leg of the double, the Northern Wairoa Hack Handicap.
