AMBULANCE DRIVERS
Work To Rule Possible (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 3. Auckland ambulance drivers may work to rule next week in protest against an instruction that they must stop for red lights, and the dismissal of one driver for refusing to obey the instruction. Mr L. Smith, acting-secre-tary of the Northern Drivers’ Union, said the protest would not disrupt ambulance services. “Any work to rule would be in the nature of refusing station duties,” he said. Forty-two drivers met at the St. John Ambulance Association’s Matai road station tonight to discuss the order, issued by the general manager, Mr S. E. Lanigstone. “We do not agree with it in the interests of the patients’ health,” said a statement issued after the meeting.
