DISPLAY OF STAMPS

Charity Effort By Boys Six primary’ school boys in Dallington Wayne Searle, Gavin Searle, Glenn Coates, Andrew Coates, Colin Gould and Brent Cummings—held a stamp exhibition in a marquee in the garden of 48 Halberg street on Saturday. Proceeds from the exhibition will be given to the Crippled Children Society. Much effort had gone into the display, which had taken the boys two months to prepare. Each group of stamps was set out on a display card with the history of the stamps recorded underneath. The cards were then pinned to hardboard and covered with a transparent material to prevent damage from handling. Some rare exhibits, including the penny red and the penny brown, were among the 700 stamps on display. Misprints and correct prints were set out side by side.

Books on stamp collecting were available for the children to read and on a display table was set out all the equipment used by philatelists.

The boys were a little disappointed with the takings, which totalled £2 10s. Mr T. Hunt, secretary of the Junior Digest Young Philatelists’ Club, who attended the exhibition in the afternoon, congratulated them on the excellence of their display.
